Coalition Against Insurance Fraud Midyear Meeting: Key Insights from the Front Lines of Fraud Prevention

Insurance fraud is becoming more sophisticated, global, and technology-driven — and staying ahead requires constant evolution. That message was clearly reinforced during the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud (CAIF) Midyear Meeting in New Orleans from June 15-16 where I joined industry leaders from insurance, regulation, investigations, and legal sectors.

A central theme throughout the conference was the growing impact of technology and cyber risks. Discussions on artificial intelligence, account takeover fraud, and cyber-enabled schemes highlighted how quickly digital threats can escalate. While these risks are increasing, however, so are opportunities to strengthen detection and analytics through smarter tools and data-driven strategies.

The meeting also underscored the rise of emerging fraud schemes, including synthetic identities, illicit licensing, and specialized fraud in areas like title insurance. These complex schemes demand a more integrated, intelligence-led approach that goes beyond traditional investigative methods. Equally important were updates on the legal and regulatory landscape, reinforcing the need for fraud investigations to align with evolving standards so advocacy efforts remain effective.

One of the strongest takeaways was the importance of collaboration. Partnerships between insurers, regulators, and service providers are critical for sharing intelligence and addressing increasingly sophisticated fraud networks—many of which now operate across borders. The conference concluded with a forward-looking discussion on the future of SIU leadership, emphasizing the need for adaptability, continuous skill development, and greater reliance on data and analytics.

For Fuzion, participation in CAIF directly supports our ability to enhance our FWA Signature Services, strengthen investigative strategies, and remain aligned with emerging industry trends and partners. Applying these insights ensures we continue delivering effective, flexible solutions for the insurers we serve.

The fight against insurance fraud is entering a new phase defined by complexity and interconnected risks. Events like CAIF are essential in equipping organizations like Fuzion to stay informed, connected, and prepared.
